Yes, this is the key question. I’ve just had a conversation with my friend on making sports professional and realized that the problem might be with the interpretation of “professional” we tend to have. Since it means “most efficient”, it’s no surprise that chess, together with the plethora of other disciplines, is turning soulless. I just ask myself whether we can shift this interpretation into something accounting more for the “fun” factor. Then, I believe, games could be saved.
